United Nations Secretary-General condemns deadly strikes by Israel across Lebanon

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned Israeli air strikes across Lebanon on 8th April 2026 which killed at least 182 people according to reports.

This follows an announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, with the ongoing military action in Lebanon posing a risk to the ceasefire and ongoing efforts for peace in the region.

The Secretary-General has called for all parties involved to immediately cease hostilities.

The UN has said that international humanitarian law must be respected at all times, and that attacks against civilians are unacceptable.

The UN also said there was no solution to the conflict which included military engagement.
